This course aims to provide you with practical strategies with which to support children who have experienced loss, trauma, or who suffer with attachment issues.

“language is the medium of learning and learning is a social process; this social conception of cognition has implications for how we think, teach, and learn.

Research shows that talk matters: both in its own right and because of its impact on other aspects of learning. Talk in the classroom is invaluable in helping children develop understanding, organise their thinking and orally rehearse their ideas and new vocabulary. However, the benefits of oracy skills go far beyond academic achievement and employability. They boost a whole range of social, emotional and interpersonal skills, including self-confidence, self-awareness, resilience and empathy. But how many of us spend time teaching our children skills in communication, oracy and listening? This course aims to support understanding as to why we should use talk more in the classroom and how to scaffold and support quality talk.
